Hi, I’m Sam, a keen hands-on problem solver, enthusiastic about using design practice to create creative solutions. My Bachelor of Design education and industry experience as a junior graphic designer have honed my skills in both written and graphic communication. 

I am passionate about the use of design as a storytelling method, which combines my personal interests in creative literacy and graphics. I thrive when working on creative challenges, finding a niche interest in data visualisation which has challenged me to push the boundaries of visual communication through translating global issues to a human scale.

Throughout three years of study in the Performance Design major, the distinct disciplines of Sound, Light, the Figure and Space in Performance are examined in detail through separate core subjects.

The culmination of this program is the capstone subject Performance Design Studio, in which students combine these scenographic elements holistically in response to a play text. These capstone projects demonstrate their ability to utilise design as a dramaturgical tool, with these skills being both valuable and transferrable across the wide variety of design disciplines that students will pursue upon completion.

The graphic design major provides students with practical and conceptual skills to undertake professional graphic design work.

Graphic designers work within print and digital based mediums to present information in ways that are both memorable and accessible. They are visual communicators—assembling illustrations, typography, images and motion graphics to create a piece of design.

Drawing on UNICEF's 2019 dataset on global birth certificate numbers, this data visualisation project emphasises the startling disparity in birth certificate rates between regions and shows a clear link between low birth registration rates and poverty.

My redesign for the 'Very Short Introductions' series offers a modern approach. Each title is assigned a unique gradient, derived from the key colours of a relevant sourced image. As readers delve into the book, the original image is revealed on the inside flap.
